         The car ran 14.372 seconds in the quarter mile, 1st time out - not bad back then.

         I'm the 16 year old kid on the left. I had just gotten my license one month earlier.
         The two other cars in the picture: The gray one was my father's '54 Chevy,
         and the closer one, a '55 Chevy Bel Air hardtop, belonged to my friend Les,
         standing right next to me. He did most of the work on the '36 Chevy,
         at his parent's house - about a mile from my parent's house.
         About 2 years later, when Les joined the Air Force, I purchased the '55 Chevy.
         I sold the '55 in May of 1963, to buy an engagement ring for my girl friend Jackie,
         who is now my wife of 47 years. She still has the ring, and she has been extremely
         supportive of my love of cars - we go to many "cruise nights" together,
         and she enjoys the cars, and the other car people we meet, as much as I do.
